This information is collected from officers who are already serving as SI in CPO with my personal inputs from various sources.
Note:- Below facilities are common for all the forces.
1. 60 days CL for all forces except Delhi police and CISF ( 30 days CL with one-month extra salary with certain deductions).
2. Medical facilities for officer and family.
3. Leave travel concession (LTC).
4. Mess facilities.
5. Quarter facilities( depending upon availability for particular force)
Note:- Salary of all the forces are nearly same for same rank ( excluding various allowances conferred upon persons serving in certain conditions like Risk allowance, High Altitude allowance etc.)
Daily duties:-
-Maintaining law and order in the assigned area.
-In this, you get additional powers conferred upon you by various acts of the government like
IPC, Cr.PC etc.
-Public dealing/facing is high in this job, so you get respect as well as responsibility.
-You get power to arrest and detain.
-You are posted as a probationary SI for some time.
-You will get a vehicle for patrolling.
-The workload is extremely high in this job.
-Sometimes you even have to work for more than 16 hrs a day without a break. -You can be called anytime by your senior officer in case of an emergency situation.(They don't hesitate to call you even in midnight ).
-You will not get leave on gazetted holidays(sometimes you can).
-Even on public holidays you have to work hard like republic day, independence day,
Diwali, Holi etc.
-You will be posted under a SHO and he will assign you your duties. (In other states SI is
circle officer/SHO but not in Delhi)
Promotion:-
-12-15 years for inspector
-5-6 years for SHO( may or may not become a SHO)
-3-4 years before retirement you may be promoted to the rank of ACP( you have to maintain
a neat and clean record to reach this level)
Pros:- Delhi posting, respect,13 months salary
Cons:- Family life is low, workload is very high, cannot prepare for other exams like SSC CGL or UPSC, sometimes harassment by senior officers, no provision of departmental examination for the post of ACP. (only seniority/UPSC)
NOTE: IN CASE OF SUSPENSION YOUR PROMOTION WILL BE DELAYED OR NO PROMOTION AT ALL.
Daily duties:-
-you will guard important government buildings and facilities including some PSUs and some
other institutions of national importance like BARC, ISRO as well as only private sector
company"Infosys" in India.
-As a sub- inspector you will be heading the security operation and will be responsible for
every act.
-This makes it a respectable job.
-You will be watched over by an inspector or an Assistant commandant.
-In case of an arrest you have to hand over the arrested person to the local police and in most
of the cases you cannot take further action.
-Working conditions are good.
-Work load is low compared to other jobs.(except Airport where you are involved in frisking)
-8 hr job i.e. you will be free after that and can prepare for further exams like departmental examination for AC or UPSC or CGL.
-This job rotates mainly in three shifts and you have to work in that particular shift. Each shift is
of eight hours
Promotion:-
-10-12 years for inspector
-10-12 years for AC
-10-12 years for DC
Pros:-
Working conditions are good, very respectable job, work load is low, become eligible for LDCE after 4 yrs of service as SI, get quarter facility except is some areas(very few), family life is good, posting in cities, can go for deputation to other special groups like SPG,NDRF etc., 13 months salary(with minute deductions)
Cons:-
Outer zone posting for 7 years(with quarter facility), promotion is slow
NOTE 1:- It is the most balanced job in SSC CPO
NOTE 2:- In some special deputation groups where persons from all the forces are invited to join, they take officers of the rank of SI from CISF and minimum AC from other forces
NOTE 3:- CISF holds the major portion of central deputation i.e. more than 60%.
Daily duties :-
-It is a border guarding force where you are involved in securing India-Nepal and India-Bhutan border.
-It is relatively a peaceful job.
-Posting in parts of UP, Bihar and other adjoining areas.
-High altitude posting i.e. in hilly areas.
-Work load is low compared to other forces like BSF and CRPF.
-Adventurous job where you get a chance to explore the beautiful Himalayas. -You are mainly involved in controlling animal and drug trafficking and illegal cross border migration in your area and has to maintain a friendly and peaceful relations with the native people.
-Indo-Nepal and Bhutan borders are one of the most peaceful borders of our country.
-Family life is low as you cannot take your family along with you at the border are but for this
you will get 60 days leave.
-Promotional aspects are highest in this force due to its small size and rapid expansion policy.
Promotion:-
-4-5 yrs inspector
-6-7 yrs AC
-9-11 yrs DC
Note: Further promotion on the basis of seniority, track record and available vacancies.
Pros:-Fast promotion, medium work load, adventurous life, respect.
Cons:- Family life is low, outer posting (less chances of city posting i.e. HQ or Camp posting)
Daily duties :-
-You have to maintain peace and order in your area.
-You are usually posted in tensed area to relieve the tension.
-It is a highly transferable job where you get posted in certain area for a fixed time and after that
task is completed you are again shifted to other areas.
-Initial postings are mainly in Naxalite area where you have to face aggressive gorilla warfare
and secure your area and your unit.
-Risk involved with this job is very high, so is the pride.
-Very respectable job.
-Use of arms and ammunition is high compared to other jobs.
-It is also used by government to control riot and other aggressive disturbances.
-You get a chance to be the part of prestigious COBRA unit maintained by CRPF to deal with
Naxalism.
-Only the brave one opts this job due to hard working conditions and high mortality rate
compared to other forces.
-You will be posted to secure elections in a tensed area to the valleys of J&K to fight terrorism.
-Highly versatile postings.
Promotion:-
-5-6 yrs inspector
-8-9 yrs AC
-11-13 yrs DC
Pros:- Versatile postings, highly respectable, good promotional aspects
Cons:- Risk involved is very high, highly transferable, family life is low
Daily duties :-
-It is a border guarding force.
-It guards the border of India-Pakistan and India-Bangladesh.
-You will be posted at the border along with your unit.
-Postings are from the hills of J&K to the rann of kutch in Gujarat.
-From hilly terrain to salty marshes you will live a life of a soldier securing the most tensed
borders of the country.
-BSF acts as first line of defense and secures the border along with the villages close to
border.
-You have to maintain peaceful relation with the natives people and protect them form external
aggression.
-Posting in Bangladesh is more peaceful compared to that of Pakistan as insurgency is
low from Bangladesh side.
-At Bangladesh border you mainly have to secure the border villages and prevent illegal
smuggling of animals in the border areas.
-You also have to provide basic amenities like medical and other facilities to people of border
area to maintain peaceful relations with them.
-Along the Pakistan border your main duty is to prevent insurgency and terrorist activities from
Pakistan side.
-Risk involved with this job is very high and family life is very low compared to other forces.
Note: Now a days government is also using BSF for anti-naxal operations or in highly tensed
areas.
Promotion:- Promotions are slow in BSF due to stagnation in recent time.
-10-14 years for inspector
-15-16 yrs for AC
Note:- One of the most respectable job with perks that of an army personnel.
Pros:- Highly versatile job, adventurous job with chances to explore your skills
Cons:- Border posting, risk is high, family life is low, you not only have to fight anti-social elements in the border area but also have to survive in those harsh conditions.
Daily duties :-
-It is a border guarding force similar to SSB.
-You will be guarding the Indo-Tibetan border.
-This Border area is peaceful compared to India-Pakistan border.
-Insurgency is low in these areas(except certain cases seen recently in news). -You are charged with the duty of maintaining peace in your area.
-Mostly border posting.
-You cannot keep your family with you in the border area so family life is low in this force.
(In certain areas where there is availability of quarters you can keep your family.)
-Life is adventurous and full of adrenaline.
-You get a chance to explore your mountaineering skills.
-Risk involved is low(except high altitude and harsh environment like Siachin).
Promotion:- Faster
-4-5 yrs inspector
-5-6 yrs AC
-6-8 yrs DC
-11-12 yrs 2I/C
Note :- 15yrs commandant(exceptional cases with high caliber)
Pros:- Promotion chances are very high, adventurous job
Cons:- Border posting, family life is low.
Daily duties :-
-It is a grade C job with working profile similar to that of an SI in CISF ( but subordinate to SI).
-You are not eligible for LDCE AC examination.
-Salary is lower than that of an SI.
-Promotion is very slow.
-It will take you around 10-12 years to become an SI.
-At max you can go upto the level of Inspector and in rare case to the level of AC.
All the other facilities and benefits are nearly similar as that of an SI in CISF.
